ICSPR THE US VETO AGAINST THE UN RESOLUTION ABOUT JERUSALEM REFLECTS USA DISREGARD OF THE INTERNATIONAL LAW
Press Release
ICSPR The US veto against the UN resolution about Jerusalem reflects USA disregard of the International law
The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights ICSPR condemns in the strongest possible terms the USA veto, on Monday, 18 December 2017, against a draft resolution submitted by the Arab Republic of Egypt to denounce and invalidate the decision of US President Donald Trump recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and his plans to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The new US move represents a slap to the international system, especially since the use of the veto this time came after a global consensus expressed by the agreement of the Security Council 14 members on the draft resolution, as well as the global positions expressed by the international community over the past few days.
The frequent use of the US veto more than 43 times in the interest of Israeli States against the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people considered a clear and explicit bias for the occupying power and light green for continuing Israeli occupation and preventing the Palestinian people from any chance of recognizing their rights internationally.
ICSPR condemn the new US resolution, also reaffirm that the recent US decisions and subsequent actions constitute a clear American contribution in crimes of colonization and annexation, as well as ICSPR urge the Palestinian leadership to address this decision by building new Palestinian strategy is not subject to negotiations, on the other hand it have to employ all the international legal instruments including filing a complaint to the Security Council, ICSPR calls on the following:-
ICSPR demands the Palestinian leadership to work with Arab and Islamic countries and the peace- and justice-loving States in order to make a real move and go to the General Assembly through the mechanism of Uniting for peace to override the US veto in the Security Council to condemn the American declaration and emptied it of any validity or substance and taking actions to counter it.
ICSPR demands the international community and its different organizations to engage in a serious international action based on the principle of the maintenance of international peace and security, and the principle of making the international law at the forefront of any international situations in order to carry out the priority of ending the Israeli occupation and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their rights, most important the right of self-determination, provide international protection to the Palestinian people, isolate Israel and the United States, as well as make serious steps in the international judicial bodies to hold the US, Israel and their leaders the accountable on committing international crimes.
ICSR consider the US veto is a new opportunity for the International community to reconsider the existing international system, in order to meet the objectives of the international community which to achieve international peace and security and to obtain peoples their fundamental rights.
ICSR demands the Palestinian leadership to stop the Palestinian Israeli negotiations, end the security coordination, withdrawing recognition of the occupying power, to accelerate the national reconciliation including the lifting sanctions on the Gaza Strip, as well as to put a plan to support the steadfastness of the people and institutions of Jerusalem and to establish a unified national reference in the city.
