(ICSPR) DEMANDS THE SECURITY AND POLICE SERVICE OF THE GAZA STRIP TO STOP VIOLATING THE RIGHT OF CITIZENS TO PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY.
(ICSPR) demands the security and police service of the Gaza Strip to stop violating the right of citizens to peaceful assembly.
The International Commission to Support Palestinian Right (ICSPR ) followed with deep concern the security and police services of the Gaza Strip disperse a peaceful set in organized by a number of young unemployed graduates in rejection of poverty and unemployment to claim their right to work, to public service and to a decent life.
Also(ICSPR) considers that this violates a pillar founded right to freedom of opinion and expression and peaceful assembly which is legally guaranteed.
According to the available information and according to the sit-in eyewitnesses, at 03:00 am on Saturday 10/2/2018, a security force of the police and detectives, around 5 cars, was presented at the place of the sit in tent, where 13 protesters were staying overnight, in front of the headquarters of the Prime Minister in Gaza city. The force surrounded the place and asked the protesters to unpack the picket tent and leave the place immediately. The protesters tried to talk with the security personnel but to no avail, which resulted in confiscating the tent and the detaining the protesters until the first morning hours without any Legal justification.
(ICSPR) emphasizes that the right to freedom of opinion and expression and the right to freedom of assembly and peaceful demonstration are legally guaranteed, considering that the calls of the young graduates for peaceful protest in order to bring their issues the attention of those responsible authorities on the suffering in the Gaza Strip caused by poverty and unemployment during 11 years.
ICSPR supports any protest aims to call for the people rights, and urges the Palestinian parties to intervene in solving the outstanding Gaza Strip crisis.
ICSPR urges upon the security services in the Gaza strip to abide by the lows and respect the public freedom, as well as not to guarantee the right to peaceful assembly.
ICSPR calls upon the public attorney to open an investigation to question those who are involved.
