Press release

The International Commission (Hashd) condemns the assassination of a civilian in Nablus and demands that civic peace and the rule of law be reinforced.

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (Hashd): followed with concern the murder that occurred on Monday afternoon, September 11, 2023, in the West Bank city of Nablus, which resulted in the death of citizen Osama Ibrahim Al-Souki (64 years old), a resident of the village of Askar Al-Balad, east of Nablus. According to police spokesperson Colonel Louay Izriqat, he was subjected to gunfire near the town of Deir al-Hatab, east of the city, and his death was proclaimed immediately.

The International Commission (Hashd) believes that the continued manifestations of violence, chaos, the taking of the law into one’s own hands, the misuse of firearms, and the large number of victims constitute a violation of the rule of law that will undoubtedly lead to further disruption of the social fabric and civil peace, and the Commission reiterates its calls for the Public Prosecution to investigate the incident as well as all incidents of killing and quarrels. To guarantee that people who use weapons in violation of the law, as well as those who commit these crimes, face legal consequences, the family records demand the following:

  1. The International Commission (Hashd): calls on the Public Prosecution and the relevant authorities to take legal action against the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice in a manner that improves society’s security and stability.
  2. The International Commission (Hashd): calls for a responsible examination of the factors that contribute to such events, which endanger citizens’ security as well as society’s peace and internal security, and works to reduce family feuds and manifestations of taking the law into one’s own hands.
  3. The International Commission (Hashd): asks for steps to prevent the proliferation and abuse of guns, limiting their use by those entrusted with law enforcement, and striving to improve social peace, protect society from crime and turmoil, and enforce the law.
