The International Commission (Hashd) welcomes and appreciates the approval of the UN General Assembly’s draft resolution concerning the legal opinion of the International Court of Justice, which calls for ending the Israeli occupation

The International Commission (Hashd) welcomes and values the vote of 124 member states of the UN General Assembly during its extraordinary session on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, despite immense pressure on some, which led 43 countries to abstain, and 14 countries, including the United States and Israel, to reject the resolution. The resolution calls for Israel to end its illegal occupation of Palestinian territories within a year, in accordance with the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion in July 2024. This affirms the rejection of Israeli occupation and the crimes committed against the Palestinian people over the past 57 years, including the denial and disregard for the rules of international humanitarian law and relevant UN resolutions on the Palestinian cause.

The International Commission (Hashd): emphasizes the urgent need for states, global advocates, and international organizations, both individually and collectively, to take all necessary measures to boycott the Israeli occupying state, impose sanctions on it, including an arms embargo, and hold its leaders accountable before international courts. Such measures would contribute to upholding international law, ending the law of the jungle, securing justice for the victims, halting genocidal crimes, dismantling colonial settlements, ending racial discrimination, and ultimately ending the Israeli occupation. These actions would also ensure the compensation of Palestinians, support their right to self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, along with the return of refugees.

The International Commission (Hashd): stresses that the implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution is an opportunity to respond to the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people and all international voices calling for an end to Palestinian suffering and the historical injustice they have faced. Furthermore, the decision and its enforcement represent a chance to restore confidence in international law, the global community, and the international system, which has failed for over a year during the genocidal war and for 76 years of conflict. This calls for an escalation of international pressure and actions to protect Palestinians and ensure that the Israeli occupying state complies with the rules of international humanitarian law, human rights conventions, and relevant UN resolutions on the Palestinian cause.
