The International Commission “Hashd” Strongly Condemns the Horrific Massacre Committed by Israeli Occupation Forces in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, This Morning
The International Commission to Support Palestinian People’s Rights “Hashd” strongly condemns the brutal and horrific massacre committed by Israeli warplanes against forcibly displaced persons in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. Early this morning, on September 10, 2024, Israeli warplanes unexpectedly attacked the tents of displaced persons near the Othman bin Affan Mosque, behind the British Hospital, southwest of Khan Younis. This area had been declared a “humanitarian zone” by the occupation. According to eyewitness reports and statements from the Civil Defense spokesperson, Israeli warplanes fired five highly explosive missiles and sand bombs at the tent encampment, resulting in the initial death toll of 40 people and injuring 60 others to varying degrees. The attack also terrorized the displaced people in the surrounding area, burning and destroying around 20 tents that were home to dozens of forcibly displaced citizens. This massacre is one of the most heinous acts committed during the ongoing genocide, which has lasted for 340 consecutive days. As of the writing of this statement, Civil Defense teams and medical crews are still searching for missing persons amid great difficulties due to the three craters caused by the Israeli strikes, which are more than nine meters deep, compounded by the lack of resources, power outages, and the collapse of health services.
The International Commission “Hashd”: holds the Israeli occupation and its partners fully responsible for this heinous crime and the ongoing genocidal acts, which would not have occurred without the international community’s failure to fulfill its moral, legal, and humanitarian obligations. The commission warns against falling prey to the false narratives propagated by the occupation, aimed at justifying this crime and creating pretexts for targeting and killing civilians by claiming that they targeted a Hamas command and control point. The truth is exposed by the number of victims, including children and women, which contradicts these claims. Additionally, the attack blatantly violates all rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the provisions of the Hague and Geneva Conventions, which require respect for the principles of distinction between civilians and combatants, ensuring that no excessive harm is caused to civilians in pursuit of military advantage, and adherence to the principles of proportionality and humanity in the use of force. These are all principles the Israeli occupation and its military forces have flagrantly disregarded, making this act a form of genocide and a fully constituted war crime.
The International Commission “Hashd”: calls on the international community, the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, the United Nations, and world governments to take serious action to stop the ongoing Israeli genocide and aggression, provide international protection for Palestinians, impose sanctions and boycotts on Israel, and prosecute its leaders, soldiers, and those responsible for mass killings in international courts.
