press release

The International Commission (Hashd) calls on the international community to put an end to Israeli settlers’ crimes and terror against Palestinian civilians.

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (Hashd) strongly condemns the death of a young man, Qusay Jamal Maatan (19), by a settler last evening, Friday, August 5, 2023.

According to eyewitnesses and the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the young guy, Maatan, was killed by a settler who assaulted the town of Burqa, east of Ramallah, in the West Bank, burning two vehicles and injuring many other inhabitants. While protecting their land, properties, and houses, the Israeli occupation army offered them safety and assistance, firing gunshots, neighborhood, and gas bombs against Palestinian residents.

The number of martyrs has risen since the beginning of this year to 212 civilians, including 38 children and 6 women.

The International Commission (Hashd) believes that these attacks and crimes are part of an integrated official systematic policy that oversees the use of terrorist settler militias to displace Palestinians and steal their lands, with a clear division of roles between the occupying state and its war forces, as well as between settlement associations and settler groups, to achieve annexation of the Occupied West Bank.

The International Commission (Hashd) affirms that Israel’s racist, systematic policies amount to war crimes under international humanitarian law, which provides general protection for civilians, as well as violations of international human rights law, particularly the principles and provisions of the Convention on Human Rights and the protocol requiring civilian protection during armed conflicts.

The International Commission (Hashd) urges all parties to the Geneva Conventions, United Nations institutions, and the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Protection of Human Rights During Armed Conflicts to take all necessary steps to protect civilians in occupied Palestine, as well as to work to hold the Israeli occupation state accountable for its crimes against civilians and to boycott it. Additionally, there will be consequences for it.
