On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The International Commission (ICSPR): Continued official and popular international inaction towards Israel’s crimes of genocide undermines the principles of human solidarity

This morning, the International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) held a press conference in Deir al-Balah, Gaza, to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. A press statement was delivered in Arabic by Attorney Rana Hdeib, Director of the Legal Department at ICSPR, and in English by researcher Lubna Deeb. The statement addressed key aspects of the humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinian people as a result of the Israeli occupation and its crimes of genocide.

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) extends its greetings to the Palestinian people, to advocates of freedom and justice around the world, and to all defenders of human rights on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually on November 29.

This day serves as a renewed opportunity to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people due to the prolonged Israeli military occupation of Palestinian territories. The occupation continues to commit crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and racial discrimination, while systematically violating the civil, political, economic, and social rights of the Palestinian people wherever they reside.

The Tragic Reality of Palestinians Under Occupation

This occasion comes as the genocidal war in Gaza enters its 419th day, resulting in:

  • The death and injury of over 6% of the population: 60,000 dead and missing, 70% of whom are women and children, and 105,000 injured.
  • Destruction of infrastructure and property: 380,000 housing units have been completely or partially destroyed, with 85% of civilian properties and facilities damaged.
  • Collapse of healthcare and education systems: 34 hospitals, 160 healthcare facilities, and 365 schools and universities have been destroyed, alongside 80% of agricultural lands.
  • A catastrophic humanitarian crisis: 90% of Gaza’s population suffers from severe food insecurity, with thousands dying due to famine and disease.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue targeting civilians in the West Bank through raids, arrests, forced displacement campaigns, expansion of colonial settlements, the Judaization of Jerusalem, and control over Islamic and Christian holy sites.

A Call to the International Community

The continued crimes of the Israeli occupation reflect state-sponsored terrorism and systematic targeting of Palestinian civilians, in violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions. ICSPR emphasizes that solidarity with the Palestinian people on this day represents solidarity with humanity, justice, and the principles of international law.

ICSPR’s Key Demands:

  1. Open urgent humanitarian corridors to provide aid to Gaza residents and retrieve the bodies of those buried under rubble.
  2. Hold Israeli leaders accountable for their crimes before the International Criminal Court and activate universal jurisdiction mechanisms.
  3. Press for an end to the Israeli occupation and support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and their legitimate rights.
  4. Declare Gaza a disaster and famine-stricken area, providing urgent humanitarian and medical needs.
  5. Strengthen Palestinian national unity by implementing reconciliation agreements and holding a general meeting of factional leaders to unify Palestinian political institutions.
  6. Impose international sanctions on Israel and compel it to cease its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people.
  7. Organize global solidarity events to transform the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People into a worldwide uprising against the occupation.

In Conclusion

ICSPR reaffirms that achieving justice for the Palestinian people requires serious international will to end the Israeli occupation and to ensure respect for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to return, independence, and national sovereignty.
