The International Commission (Hashd) issues a policy paper entitled “Towards effective policies to reduce youth unemployment.”

In a policy paper titled “Towards effective policies to reduce youth unemployment,” written by researcher Moatasem Maher Fares,The Research and Policy Department of the The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (Hashd) published its thoughts on the topic.

The paper seeks to identify the factors that contributed to the high rates of unemployment among Palestinian youth and the effects they had on them. It also examines the approaches taken by experts to address this issue and assesses their effectiveness in order to identify alternative approaches to lower rates.

The paper pointed out that in order to reduce the problem of unemployment in Palestine in general and in the Gaza Strip in particular, it is necessary to rethink the overall budget and the nature of the economic policies of the Palestinian Authority. Additionally, it is necessary to work on creating a national plan to absorb the army of graduates, which includes reviewing educational policies and the admissions process at universities and colleges. rerouting students’ courses, pointing them in the direction of areas with a labor shortage, and emphasizing fundamental skills in line with the demands of the Palestinian job market.

The paper provided a few recommendations, most notably the need to support the country’s economic growth, encourage local and foreign investment inside the occupied Palestinian territories, and evaluate educational outcomes in order to free the Palestinian economy from its dependence on the Israeli occupation’s economy.

The paper additionally called for the creation of a national strategy that prioritizes fighting the epidemic of youth unemployment as well as encouraging and growing entrepreneurship among young people.

Since each choice has an effect on reducing the unemployment rates among Palestinian youth, the researcher thinks that all of them must be put into action; otherwise, there won’t be much of a difference.
