The International Commission and the Palestinian Society for Culture and Arts launch a series of activities to support Palestinian youth
Occupied Palestine / Gaza: The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR), in partnership with the Palestinian Society for Culture, Arts and Heritage, organized today, Tuesday, 8/11/2020, a series of activities to support the rights of Palestinian youth, in honor of the International Youth Day.
The series of events started with the opening of an exhibition featuring Palestinian handicrafts and heritage.
Jamal Salem, Director of the Palestinian Society for Culture, Arts and Heritage, welcomed the attendees; announcing the series of activities that will be implemented over two days in honor of International Youth Day.
This was followed by a human rights symposium entitled: “The reality and rights of Palestinian youth”; during the symposium, Yusri Darwish, President of the General Union of the Cultural Centers, spoke about the reality of Palestinian youth, stressing the importance of youth in contributing to creating a Palestinian reality based on partnership and acceptance of others, and rebuilding the Palestinian society on correct democratic and societal foundations that ensure the cultural image of the society compared to other societies.
He stressed the need for young people to assume leadership positions in all locations, starting with the family, passing through civil institutions, and ending with decision-making centers, and they must also have a role in making change, so they have a responsibility and they are able to take the initiative and launch the broader and greater change.
On his part, Salah Abd Al-Atti, Chiarman of ICSPR, said: “Young people in Palestine have suffered from internal and external problems and challenges that have prevented their aspirations from being realized, and given that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, it becomes very important to develop policies and programs aimed at meeting the needs of Palestinian youth and enhancing their presence and role in society, and since youth are an important segment of society, they suffer from its general problems and also face special problems at all national, political, social, and economic levels.
Abdel-Atti called for the necessity to implement a package of activities and measures in the short and medium-term to reduce poverty and unemployment among young people and the absence of participation by raising the percentage and level of youth participation in particular in determining the priorities, policies and strategies necessary to deal with all problems and challenges in the long term.
