Press Release,
The International Commission: The closure of Palestinian institutions in occupied Jerusalem by the occupation authorities is a clear disregard of legitimacy and the principles of international law.
The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) follows with great concern and condemnation the Israeli occupation authorities’ closure of Palestinian institutions in East Jerusalem on Wednesday, 20 November 2019, and ratifying a draft law to impose sovereignty on the Valleys area in the West Bank.
According to available data, the Israeli authorities closed the office of the Directorate of Education and arrested its director, the headquarters of Palestine TV, and the offices of Al-Arz TV Production Company in occupied Jerusalem, and arrested and summoned its employees, based on a decision by the Minister of Internal Security of the occupation “Gilad Ardan”.
ICSPR emphasizes that the Israeli actions and crimes in Jerusalem come in the context of the absolute American support for the occupation, with the aim of concealing the reality of what is happening on the ground, and liquidating the Palestinian presence and its national institutions in the occupied city, ICSPR warns of the attempts to impose Israeli sovereignty on the valleys area, which constitutes one third of the West Bank space, contrary to the principles of international legitimacy, international humanitarian law and all international resolutions related to the Palestinian issue since its inception, especially the resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly on the occupied city of Jerusalem. Therefore, ICSPR demands the following:
- ICSPR urges the international community and the free world to condemn the occupation measures and steps, and to work for a UN resolution to boycott and isolate the occupation state.
- ICSPR calls on the Palestinian leadership to halt negotiations, end the security coordination, withdrawal the recognition of the occupation state, as well as adopt a national plan to support the steadfastness of the people and institutions of Jerusalem and form a unified national reference in the city.
- ICSPR calls upon Arab and Islamic countries, the League of Arab States and the Organization of the Islamic Conference to initiate international, political, diplomatic and legal actions to pressure the Israeli occupation to stop its actions against the Holy City and its institutions, including calling for urgent and extraordinary meetings to develop an Arab position on the crimes against Jerusalem.
