The International Commission (Hashd) Condemns the Massacre Committed by Israeli Occupation Forces at Al-Ja’ouni School in Nuseirat Camp and Calls for International Protection for Displaced Civilians
The International Commission (Hashd) strongly condemns the brutal and heinous massacre committed by Israeli warplanes against forcibly displaced people at Al-Ja’ouni School in Nuseirat Camp, which was sheltering 5,000 displaced individuals. Israeli aircraft unexpectedly bombed Al-Ja’ouni School at 4 p.m. on September 11, 2024, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and dozens of injuries, including UNRWA employees, turning them into scattered remains. This attack also terrified the remaining displaced residents. These crimes are part of a systematic policy of genocide and forced displacement against Palestinians.
The International Commission (Hashd): warns against aligning with the false narratives of the occupation, which seek to justify this crime and fabricate excuses for targeting and killing civilians by claiming that they targeted a command and control center affiliated with Hamas. The high number of casualties, including children and women, debunks these claims. The targeting of schools and their destruction while sheltering displaced civilians lacks any legitimate justification and constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of distinction, military necessity, proportionality, and the obligation to take necessary precautions. These actions also breach all rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the provisions of the Hague Conventions and Geneva Conventions, which Israel and its military forces have blatantly disregarded. This makes it an act of genocide and a complex war crime that is fully realized.
The International Commission (Hashd): stresses that these attacks are part of the ongoing execution of genocide in the Gaza Strip, aimed at depopulating the Palestinian land by killing and forcibly displacing as many Palestinians as possible. The deliberate destruction of the remaining shelter centers in the Gaza Strip, including schools, tents, and shelters, is intended to create a coercive environment that forces civilians to leave their homes and flee towards the southern part of the Strip.
The International Commission (Hashd): states that the complicity of the United States and many European countries, coupled with the international community’s silence and failure to take effective measures to stop this genocide, encourages Israel to continue its plans to annihilate the Palestinians, either through direct and indirect killing or forced displacement.
The International Commission (Hashd): calls for holding Israeli leaders accountable and prosecuting the countries complicit and collaborating with Israel in committing these crimes, including those providing assistance and engaging in contractual relations in military, intelligence, political, financial, media, and other sectors that may contribute to the continuation of these crimes.
The International Commission (Hashd): demands that the international community, the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, the United Nations, and the countries of the world take serious action to stop the genocide, end the ongoing Israeli aggression, provide international protection for Palestinians, impose boycotts and sanctions on the Israeli occupying state, and hold its leaders, soldiers, and perpetrators of mass murder accountable before international courts.
