Press Release
An urgent call for serious action to secure the release of the Palestinian prisoner: Nasser Abu Hamid, and to expedite the provision of appropriate medical care to him.
The International Commission to Support the Rights of the Palestinian People (ICSPR) highly appreciates your constant eagerness to intervene in order to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories. From Al-Amari camp, West Bank, detained since April 22, 2002 and suffering from a serious health condition since August 2021; After it was confirmed that he had cancer.
Despite his urgent need to stay in hospital, and despite the serious deterioration he has faced since the end of last year until today, the occupation authorities still keeping him detained in Ramle prison.
recent reports; regarding his state of health; confirm to be dying; As he did not receive the appropriate treatment for his health condition; The hospitals of the Israeli Prison Authority do not have any elements that would make them able to provide health services for cases of cancerous diseases. Statistics indicate that 73 prisoners have been martyred in the occupation’s prisons as a result of the policy of medical neglect (slow killing), since 1967, and they are among 231 martyrs of the captive movement since 1967, the last of whom was the martyr Saadia Faraj Allah, who was martyred in July from This year 2022, as a result of this policy.
The International Commission to Support the Rights of the Palestinian People “ICSPR” confirms that the policy of the occupation authorities towards the Palestinian detainee Abu Hamid comes in the context of the deliberate medical neglect policy pursued by the Israeli authorities against detainees and prisoners in Israeli prisons. Which is a clear violation of the Basic Principles for the Treatment of Prisoners adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979 and 1990, which emphasized the protection of the health of prisoners and medical care for detained persons, and considered that any violation in this aspect amounts to inhuman treatment and a war crime.
We send you this urgent appeal urging you to intervene immediately and urgently to ensure the following:
Issuing public positions regarding Israeli policies towards Palestinian prisoners and detainees, especially those who are sick; Which carries with it a clear disregard for the established principles of international law and action.
Take effective and capable measures to compel the Israeli military authorities to unconditionally release the sick prisoner: Nasser Abu Hamid; He broke the silence about the escalation of the occupation’s violations of international human rights standards and the rules of international humanitarian law, and the obligation of the occupation authorities to respect international law and the provisions of the Geneva Conventions of the year 1947. And to stop its practices and gross and systematic violations and arbitrary measures practiced against Palestinian prisoners in occupation prisons.
We view your contribution and your interactions in order to ensure that members of the international community fulfill their obligations towards international law. Hence, we ask you to exert more efforts, by taking specific and practical measures to ensure the immediate release of the sick prisoner: Nasser Abu Hamid.
We hope that you will act quickly now, as tomorrow may be too late
Please accept our utmost respect and appreciation
