ICSPR warns of the seriousness situation at Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp
International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (I.C.S.P.R) has been following with great concern the armed clashes erupted in Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp near Saida in southern Lebanon, where 9 citizens were killed and 40 injured according to the media, in addition to the intensive displacement of Palestinian refugees through the western entrance.
A fourth day of violence at the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon between Palestinian joint forces and an Islamic militant group in Lebanon’s Ain al-Hilweh, these clashes were concentrated in al-Tira neighborhood, Palestinian forces were committed to continuing operations until Badr and other gunmen turned themselves in.
International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (I.C.S.P.R) emphasized on the importance to intensify efforts in order to avoid innocent people losses; ICSPR stressed on the importance of Palestinian and Lebanese official interventions for maintaining peace and security and combatting terrorism, therefore it demand the following:-
ICSPR demand the Palestinian leadership to intervene to maintain peace and security in Ain al-Hilweh to ensure the safe return of refugees, with regard to the neutralization of the camps and protect it.
ICSPR confirms the necessity of maintaining the security of the Palestinian refugee and ensuring the prevalence of this, especially in the present the regional circumstances in order to prevent the recurrence of such painful experiences, which occurred within Nahr al-Bared, and al-Yarmouk refugee camps.
ICSPR Calls on the Lebanese state to improve the Palestinian refugee conditions and stop any discriminatory policies to ease the economic burden on the Palestinian refugees, in order to prevent opportunities of forming armed extremist groups within refugee camps.
ICSPR calls the international community to ensure comprehensive protection for Palestinian refugees through UNRWA, as well as an extension of UNHCR’s mandate to Palestinian refugees everywhere.
