ICSPR welcomes adopting the Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly a resolution about Palestine
International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights welcomes the decision of the Executive Council of Asian Parliamentary Assembly in adopting a resolution about Palestine on Tuesday October 3/2017 at its closing meeting in the capital of Cambodia.
The resolution requires the Assembly members and all the international bodies especially the Human right council to take position against the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in accordance with international law especially Roma Statue and consider Israel’s actions as a threaten to the international peace and security.
The Parliamentary Assembly emphasizes on the responsibility of the international community to support and implement the resolutions and recommendations issued by the Security Council, the General Assembly of the United Nations and the Human Rights Council, which are relevant to the Palestinian question, particularly with regard to the occupied city of Jerusalem. It also expresses its support to establish a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The resolution refers to the applicability of the Fourth Geneva Convention about the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, issued on12 August 1949, to the Occupied Palestinian Territory including the occupied Jerusalem. It also emphasizes on serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights against the Palestinian people committed by the occupation which undermined all International efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.
The resolution urges all the members of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly to support and treat the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations and to condemn all violations of international law that threaten international peace and security including all acts of terrorism and organized crime and human rights violations committed by the Israeli occupation in Palestine.
The resolution includes encouraging all members of the international community to put pressure on Israel to immediately release all Palestinian detainees, including members of the Palestinian parliament; dismantle all illegal settlements and the apartheid wall and end the confiscation of Palestinian land which change the legal statues of the Jerusalem and declare all these procedures as illegal.
ICSPR welcomes this step and considers it as a victory of the stable principles which the international community agreed upon. On top of all these principles comes the right of the Palestinian people to resist the Israeli occupation. ICSPR urged the Palestinian diplomacy to invest in this decision and build upon it as the following:
1- ICSPR sees that the adoption of this resolution by the Executive Council of Asian Parliamentary Assembly provides additional evidence to the falsity of the Israeli allegations. It also should encourage the International Criminal Court Prosecutor to proceed in opening international investigation about the crimes and the violations committed by the occupation.
2- ICSPR urges the Assembly members to work seriously to translate this resolution into concrete reality on the ground, especially in view of the significant deterioration of the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories due to the actions and policies of the Israeli occupying state.
3- ICSPR also urges the international community to bear its legal and moral responsibilities in ensuring respect for international human rights and international humanitarian law, protecting the Palestinian people and ending the Israeli violations committed against it.
