Press Release

The International Commission calls upon the Public Prosecution to open an investigation into the mysterious death of a girl from Deir al-Balah.

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) is deeply concerned about the growing number of killings of women on various backgrounds in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the latest of which was the death of a 20-year-old girl, from Deir El-Balah in the Gaza Strip.

According to information available to ICSPR, on Wednesday evening, 06 November 2019; the girl arrived dead to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, the competent authorities began to investigate the circumstances of the incident, this brings the death toll of women and girls on different backgrounds to around 13 in 2019.

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) stresses the need to create a climate conducive to combating all forms of violence and discrimination against women, and the importance of intensifying awareness-raising and lobbying campaigns, by all means to ensure the promotion of the protection of women’s rights and combat gender-based violence. Therefore, ICSPR demands the following:

  • ICSPR stresses the necessity of taking all measures by the legislative, executive and judicial authorities to reduce the practices of killing women and criminalizing gender-based violence by harmonizing the provisions of national laws with those of international conventions and treaties to which Palestine is a party.
  • ICSPR calls upon the Public Prosecution Office to open serious investigations into the circumstances of the murders of women, without paying attention to the justifications provided by the defendants, and publish their findings publicly.
