ICSPR demands a serious investigation into the circumstances of murdering a girl in the southern Gaza Strip

Gaza Strip / The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights “ICSPR” warns again of the grave danger of repeated killings of women in mysterious circumstances, the last of which was the killing of the 19-year-old girl “H.J.” from Khan Yunis, during a late hour of last night “Friday, April 30th “, as a result of being shot with a live bullet by mistake while her brother was tampering with a weapon, as announced. The dead body was transferred to Nasser Hospital in the city, while the police opened an investigation into the incident.

ICSPR condemns the recurrence of these incidents in the Palestinian territories, especially that it doubts that these crimes are foul play, which requires the creation of adequate climates to combat all forms of discrimination against women. Therefore:

1. ICSPR stresses the need to take maximum measures to reduce killings of various backgrounds, by adopting policy plans and enacting strict laws.

2. ICSPR demands the Public Prosecution in the Gaza Strip to open a serious investigation into the circumstances of this and similar incidents, and to publish its findings and punish the perpetrators in order to achieve public and private deterrence.

3. ICSPR stresses the need for the Palestinian authorities to fulfill their obligations in the field of harmonizing the provisions of national laws with the provisions of international conventions and treaties that they have acceded to, among which is the International Convention against All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
