The International Commission (Hash) publishes a study paper titled “Palestinian Reconciliation and the Possibility of Achieving Transitional Justice.”

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights “Hashd”, Research and Policy Department, published a study paper entitled: “Palestinian Reconciliation and the Possibility of Achieving Transitional Justice”, prepared by Adham Al-Majdalawi.

This paper delves into the issue of Palestinian division, specifically between Fatah and Hamas. It explores the reasons behind the lack of trust between the two parties and proposes the idea of utilizing transitional justice as a means to end the era of Palestinian division. The paper suggests the implementation of foundations and mechanisms that can facilitate and promote Palestinian reconciliation, ultimately leading to successful efforts in ending the division.

It is essential to recognize that what brings together the Palestinian people is more significant than what sets them apart. Therefore, all parties involved in the conflict must focus on reconciliation, national dialogue, and settlement. It is crucial to move beyond obstacles that stand in the way of achieving true Palestinian reconciliation, built on democratic principles, partisan pluralism, and political partnership. The transition from division to democratic transformation is possible through the conduct of universal general elections. It is time to work together toward a brighter future for all Palestinians.

Recent research has found that engaging in inclusive national dialogue plays a crucial role in leading the Palestinian reconciliation process effectively. To achieve this, the formation of the Supreme National Reconciliation Committee is recommended. This committee should be granted administrative and financial independence, with a focus on implementing transitional justice using the pillars and mechanisms outlined in the research paper.

To achieve reconciliation in Palestine, it is crucial to apply public pressure to all parties involved and ensure that the transitional justice framework is utilized. Recent research highlights that the establishment of a Supreme National Reconciliation Committee, with administrative and financial autonomy, will effectively facilitate this process. By focusing on the mechanisms and pillars outlined in the research paper, the committee can guarantee a successful outcome.

Prioritizing the holding of general and comprehensive elections in Palestine is of utmost importance, with a primary focus on the Palestinian people. Any further delay in the elections would not be productive, as they serve as the foundation for all necessary reforms and the implementation of transitional justice mechanisms. Democratic transformation is critical in the reconciliation process for Palestine, and these mechanisms are essential to achieve this goal.
