Occupied Palestine / Gaza: The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) directed a briefing note, on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty which was declared by the United Nations General Assembly during Resolution 47/196 of 22 January 1992, calling for urgent intervention to ensure the enjoyment of the Palestinian people of a decent standard of living.

Within which it confirmed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Coordinator for the Peace Process, the President of the Human Rights Council, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the Special Rapporteur on the right to food, and the special rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Special Rapporteur on the right to development, the Working Group on Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises, President of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, head of the World Food Program, that all persons must enjoy all rights as a means of ensuring that everyone can live a free and decent life.

ICSPR indicated that the Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip, are now suffering from a real threat to their economic and humanitarian conditions alike, as a result of the illegal tightening of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip for the 14th year in a row, which repercussions affected the economic, health and social conditions, threatening the Palestinian society in general, and in particular the Gaza Strip.

During the briefing note, it submitted numbers and statistics that explain the state of misery experienced by the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, in light of the intensification of the Israeli siege, which will increase the complexities of the rest of the sectors, and will affect the social conditions, as the rates of crimes, suicides, violence, drug abuse, depression and illiteracy will rise.

ICSPR affirmed that what the Israeli occupation is doing is considered a crime of collective punishment against civilians in the Gaza Strip,  a violation of the provisions of international human rights and international humanitarian laws, which affirmed the occupation’s obligations towards the civilian population in the land it occupied..
