The International commission (ICSPR) calls on the local and international community to exert more efforts to pressure the Palestinian Authority to stop the campaigns of arbitrary and political detention and to hold the perpetrators of the torture crime accountable
The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) follows up with condemnation and deep concern the continued implementation by the Palestinian security services in the West Bank of political and arbitrary arrests against Hamas supporters and members of the Fatah movement (Reformist trend) and other Palestinian movements.
According to the media, the arrests have continued for several days of dozens of people in the West Bank cities and villages, where they have been subjected to abuse, psychological and physical torture, contrary to the law.
The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) condemns in the strongest possible terms the continuing practice of political and arbitrary detention, considering that the practice of political and arbitrary detention and the commission of the crime of torture constitute a clear violation of the obligations of the national authority under national law and the international conventions on human rights which have been acceded to, Therefore:
- ICSPR calls on the Palestinian security services to refrain from political retaliation and strictly abide by the provisions of the national law, which confers the authority of arrest and detention and restriction of freedom only to judicial officials, who are under the supervision of the Public Prosecution.
- ICSPR calls on the local and international community for more efforts to put pressure on the Palestinian Authority to stop arbitrary and political arrests and to hold the perpetrator of the torture crime accountable.
- ICSPR calls on the Palestinian Authority to immediately release all political prisoners, who were arrested by the Palestinian security services in the West Bank.
